Acclaimed by the Swedish dailies, Svenska Dagbladet and Dagens Nyheter, New York’s La Mama Theater Company performed Saviana Stănescu’s Waxing West to full houses in
Stockholm on January 16 and 17. Critic Lars Ring of Svenska Dagbladet praises both the text and the
New York troupe: “The production is realized in the good old La Mama tradition: powerful playing….Waxing West is a somber play marked by continuous ironic, gastronomic and sexual connotations.
New York resident Stănescu criticizes both occidental neurosis and alienation and the new
