Mircea Cărtărescu’s German
language publisher announces: Nostalgia is going
into a second edition. Highly praised by Deutschlandradio, Nostalgia (Surhkamp: March 2009) was featured this March on Kulturcafe (Austrian TV, ORF 1). Translated by Gerhardt
Csejka, Nostalgia follows in the steps of Cărtărescu’s
highly successful Warum wir die Frauen lieben / Why We Love
Women (De ce iubim femeile), which has gone through a
German print run of 3,500 copies in 2008.
In 2010 Surhkamp will publishTravesti / Trabevesties.
The German translation of Orbitor.
Aripa stîngă (Austria: Zsolnay, 2007) has now reached its
fourth edition, with more than 10,000 copies sold. Gerhardt Csejka
was awarded a Translator’s Prize of 25,000 euros for his work on
this text. In January 2008, Austrian ORF Radio Broadcasting namedOrbitor “book of the month” three months post publication. In
February, German radio station SWR listed Orbitor among the
best books of the month. A new print version is forthcoming from
German DTV in the fall of 2009.
